This year for The Chalice we saw slightly different conditions to those that we usually associate with the event due to it’s normal position on the golf calendar being early spring. We couldn’t have asked for a better day for golf over The Church and The Mill with the sun shining, a gentle breeze and course conditions that could have been mistaken for the golf course at this past weekends US Open.

These great conditions resulted in some impressive scoring with 10 players completing their rounds with 40 points or better. One man, Rob Lambert, left very little down to chance producing a dominant Gross 77 (net 61) for 47 points meaning that he would end the day firmly on the top of the leaderboard.

Our Runner-up on the day was Peter Gray who put on a great display of golf during his round with the highlight being his gross 3-under par front nine over The Church and eventually finishing his round 1-under (gross 71) for a total of 44 points. In order to find our third placed player we had to look at the back nines of Iqbal Dhanji, Jonathan Sheffield and Rod Lane who were all tied on 42 points. Iqbal Dhanji’s back nine of level par meant that he would narrowly take third place over his competitors.

Just behind our top 5 in a tie for 6th were Gary Pocock, Peter Browning and Jo Owens who deserve a mention with their great scores of 41 points.

With today’s results being added to the Rank List some notable changes include:  Rob Lambert moving from 175th to 26th, Peter Gray moving from 11th up to 6th and Iqbal Dhanji moving from 29th to 11th. The top 3 has remained the same with Dean Sayers on 1518.24 points, 131.31 points ahead of Martin Collins who is closely followed by Kevin Langston with only 80.82 points separating the two. Matt Pinnock has closed the gap between himself and the top 3 by moving into 4th place.
