Dear Members,
As we welcome the new season, I am pleased to share updates on several exciting developments at The Wisley:
New Putting Green – Opening Early May
We are ahead of schedule on the establishment of our new 1,700 sqm putting green, designed by James Edwards.
The design takes into account the natural elevation changes from the road to the flood channel. Some may find the central Himalayas-style section quite bold, but the philosophy behind it is to create a fun and engaging experience while breaking up the large surface. A traditionally contoured green of this size might feel uninspiring, so this design ensures an exciting challenge.
The green will feature 18 holes, with a mix of fixed holes, as you would find on the course, and pins that you can move, allowing you to practice the exact putts that you would like to. This setup provides an excellent opportunity to refine your skills on a range of putts.
The green has five distinct zones, and for a deeper insight into the design philosophy, you can view James Edwards’ explanation here.
Green Etiquette
- This is a putting green, but the “up and down” section is designed for realistic chipping practice with 1 or 2 balls.
- This is not the same as the chipping green. If you find yourself taking a divot, you’re in the wrong place.
- Once the new green is open, the existing putting green will become part of the chipping area.
Additional Updates
- Grass Tee on the Range – We are delighted to confirm the grass tee will open on April 9th at 2pm.
- The Drive Inn – Now open, 8am-12pm.
- Green Fee Update – As the season begins, the new green fee of £120 will take effect from April 1st.
- Garden 1 / Putting Green Road Project – To be completed week commencing March 31st.
We look forward to seeing you on the course and enjoying these exciting enhancements together. Thank you for your continued support.
Best regards,
John Lockyer
