Big Leaf Foundation is a charity established to provide a nurturing programme of activities, projects and events, that focus on combatting social isolation for displaced young people in Surrey, improving their wellbeing and helping them to fulfil their potential. It engages with the youngsters by providing support for integrating into their new communities, by helping with their education, volunteering placements and various social and sporting activities to mix in with local people.
The charity was recently recognised at the highest level by being awarded the King’s Award for Voluntary Service. It is supported by grants from many other Surrey foundations, and by schools, colleges, clubs, businesses and councils providing help and facilities free of charge.
TWF has sponsored 5 sporting events throughout the year where the displaced youngsters mix in with local teams. These include a basketball, multisport and two football events. However, the highlight of the year is a cricket match against The Surrey Police which was recently held at Guildford Cricket Club, with the youngsters performing superbly, with outstanding fielding, bowling and batting.
