The prolonged dry season and subsequent drop in water levels has exposed large sections of the lake beds that would otherwise be under water and a clearly visible hazard, however some are seeing this as an advantage to play a shot that would otherwise have had to take a drop.
The lake beds are not firm or stable, increased leaf drop is masking the potential danger, and we do strongly advise that the hazard lines and markers are adhered to, and not to step off the embankments onto the bed no matter how secure the footing looks.
Sediment build up on lake edges are not compacted and result in a quick sand effect, presenting a very real danger to any golfer, in particular lone golfers.
It will take considerable rainfall to refill the lakes, and our Lakes and Rivers Policy remains that a ball must only be retrieved if it can be reached with a ball scoop from the cut rough.
