Use of the Practice Facilities

12 May 2023

Dear Members,

I would greatly appreciate it if you could spare a moment to read this email regarding the use and access of the Club’s practice facilities.

In recent weeks there has been some confusion with regards to the usage and restrictions for family, juniors and guests of Members at the Driving Range, Short Game Area and Putting Green. As these facilities are becoming an increasingly busy area, we would like to remind all members that the usage and rules should be self-enforced by each member as per the spirit of the club, and if anyone is uncertain, then please ask a member of our team for clarification.

The Club Rules are as follows –

  • A spouse may practice for up to one hour accompanied by a Member
  • A junior under 18 without a junior membership may practice for up to 30 minutes but only at off-peak times
  • All practice must be accompanied by the responsible parent Member or spouse
  • Juniors with a junior membership may use the practice facilities at any time, but they must always give way to Members

Policies & Etiquette –

  • Dress code on the Driving Range is as per playing golf, with appropriate attire
  • Parents and guardians must maintain responsibility and supervise their children at all times including at the Driving Range, discouraging activities within corridors, Locker Rooms, staircases and around the Clubhouse

In my April ‘Down to a Tee‘ podcast (available to listen here) I discussed practice facility access and subsequently received many favourable comments. With more Members understanding these rules, I have also received an increase in feedback in regard to other Members abusing the permission in terms of the time that they are arriving with family to practice, the duration of their stay and, on occasion, their behaviour. All of which can affect the enjoyment of the club for other Members.

I would appreciate co-operation from all members in ensuring the Club Rules are followed. Our wish is to avoid any unnecessary conversations and therefore continuing the excellent standards of Member conduct that The Wisley is known for.

Kind regards,

Ian Cox
Director of Golf
