Spring Scratch & Chairman’s Bowl Winners

26 May 2024

This year’s Spring Scratch Medal & Chairman’s Bowl presented a challenging but enjoyable weekend of golf with the sun shining both days and the The Church and The Mill courses in great condition.

Day one saw Thomas Greenhalgh 72 (level-par) lead the Spring Scratch Medal followed by Peter Harrison in second with a gross score of 73 (+1). Alistair Brown was closely behind with a gross score of 74. Peter’s score of 73 (Net 66) meant that after day one he found himself at the top of the leaderboard for the Chairman’s Bowl with Roger Yates closely behind with a Net 69.

Day two presented a bigger challenge for the field with low scores being few and far between. Thomas Greenhalgh produced the low gross of the day with a 2 over par 74 for a gross total of 146 (+2) to secure first place and win the Spring Scratch! Peter Harrison (gross 77) finishes on a 150 total in second place and Alistair Brown (gross 81) taking third place on a total of 155.

In the Chairman’s Bowl Peter Harrison maintained his lead, posting a Net 70. With a total for the tournament of Net 136 (8-under par) Peter is the Chairman’s Bowl winner! Closely behind is Marc Clancy on Net 142 (-2). Roger Yates follows closely behind with a net score of 145 (+1).

Last year we introduced a 55 and over scratch section to keep more of the field invested in the scratch scores over the full weekend. At the end of the weekend Peter Harrison takes the win with a two day total of 150 (+6), Roger Yates takes second place, aided by a 77 on day 1. Peter Gray and Peter Conroy come in with a tie for third.

Finally, we run a separate Sunday Net competition during this event with Richard Moore coming out on top of the leaderboard with a score of Net 67 (-5) including an impressive back-nine of gross 39 (+3) over The Mill. Peter Harrison and Marc Clancy tie for second place with Net 70 so we had to look at their net scores on The Mill to break the tie. Marc’s net 33.5 places him in second. Peter’s Net 34.5 gives him the third place position.

Congratulations to Thomas Greenhalgh and Peter Harrison on winning the Spring Scratch Medal and Chairman’s Bowl. We look forward to seeing all competitors at the Autumn Scratch Medal and President’s Putter where the Montgomery Cup is on the line for the best 72 hole gross over the two events.
