Autumn Scratch & President’s Putter Winners

17 September 2023

Autumn Scratch Medal

An exciting first day saw Luke Carby 72 (E) lead the Autumn Scratch Medal closely followed by Thomas Greenhalgh 75 (+3) and Tony Jansen 76 (+4).

Day two saw Luke Carby and Thomas Greenhalgh’s go head to head, with both players tying on 151. Following the conditions of the competition, both players made their way back to the first tee to start their three-hole playoff.

Luke and Thomas both hit their drives left and short of the cross bunkers, Thomas proceeded to draw his approach shot in and finished 4ft from the hole, Luke’s approach was heading straight for the flag, but unfortunately caught the ridge of the bowl on the left hand side and finished 25ft from the flag. Luke finished with a par and Thomas holed his birdie putt.

On the second both players went left again with Thomas finishing right of the middle fairway bunker and Luke just over the mounds on the light rough next to the first fairway. Luke laid up just past the first approach bunker and Thomas followed him. Thomas’ approach landed past the flag and finished approximately 6ft from the pin. Luke’s shot again seemed to be heading straight for the flag, his ball landed just past but with quite a bit of spin in came back and finished just off the green. Luke two putted for his par and Thomas rolled his putt in for another birdie.

On the third tee Thomas led the way hitting his shot to around 15ft on the front portion of the green. Luke’s tee shot caught the top lip of the left greenside bunker and rolled back down into the sand. Luke hit a good bunker shot out to around 8ft. Thomas using his momentum from the first two holes proceeded to roll another birdie putt into the middle of the cup to win the playoff and claim the title as winner of the Autumn Scratch Medal.

In third place is Tony Jansen with scores of 76 on the Saturday and 79 on the Sunday give him a total score of 155.
