The Wisley’s Handicap Committee

As a Club we have adopted England Golf’s best practices with regards to the WHS.

England Golf require all golf clubs to perform an Annual Handicap review on all members with a WHS index. England Golf specify that there are several factors that the Handicap Committee should review including looking in detail at all the scoring data collected during the year.

Below is a summary of items that are sometimes misunderstood –

  • Rounds being entered for handicap purposes must be pre-registered. England Golf do not offer an option to enter a round following play if the round has not been registered prior to play. We understand that forgetting to register can be frustrating, though please understand a round cannot be entered without registering.

o  Please use the England Golf app to register or,

o  Inform the Pro Shop that you will be entering a score (they will record this notice) and provide the Pro Shop with the signed card as soon as possible after the round

o  In due course, a new digital registration system will be offered at the Club

  • Pre-arranged competitive golf (using England Golfs terms) “can be considered pre-registered”, we encourage this to be the case in all qualifying competitive games.

Handicap reviews and revisions will be based upon –

                o  Peer review

                 o  Injury or incapacity

o  Differences between scores registered from Competition and General Play

Based upon the considerations above emails will be sent in the coming days to Members whose handicaps are under review, along with details of the proposed change.

If you have any questions with regards to your index, the WHS or England Golf, please get in touch in response to this email. I enjoy every aspect of golf and the WHS has raised many questions – the good news is many have straightforward answers!

Best regards,
