Vice Captain Announcement

3 February 2022
Stuart Owens

Following the nomination process and the unanimous recommendation of the Golf Club Committee, the Board are delighted to propose Stuart Owens as Vice-Captain for the year 2022/23. Stuart is to be elected as per Club Rule 14 at the Annual General Meeting on Saturday 23rd April 2022.

I have been a member of The Wisley since 2009. Born in Liverpool and brought up in Blackpool, I forsook Lancashire for an Economics Degree at Reading University.

My work background was as a chartered accountant with Price Waterhouse Coopers where I met my wife Jo (also a keen member of The Wisley). After 2 years working in South Africa, I moved to Dixons Group for 10 years including time in Manchester and Madrid, before a change to Fat Face where I was COO. Since 2010 I have tried to give up full time executive work, spending my time investing in, and hopefully helping, various smaller businesses, most recently a clothing business – Beaufort & Blake.

Sport has always been a significant part of my life, early years being football and cricket but with rugby union eventually taking over where my efforts were concentrated on playing for Ealing in my 20’s. After serious rugby was left behind for family and career, we found some time for tennis and golf even though I played Vets rugby for another 20 years off and on. I then became addicted to all the pain and annoyingly rare success that golf brings.

Jo and I joined The Wisley in the same year and I play in as many club competitions as I can. You will also find me cursing my inabilities at the practice range far too often. We both love the social aspect of the club and are especially fond of Sam’s fabulous cooking. The Wisley has become a key part of our lives and meeting and playing with the unique diversity of members is something we both treasure. I hope I can help to keep The Wisley flourishing.
